You’re talking …. and I’m listening.
I hope you will agree that I am capable of representing you. I believe your vote for me will result in you feeling that you have a representative in local government that reflects your point of view, understands your concerns, and will respond to your ideas.
I do not believe we need 1,000 new box houses or 100 new developers in Sandpoint. We already have plenty of thoughtful builders and planners ready to work towards sensible solutions to our continued growth and lack of affordable living spaces. I do believe that we need to address infrastruture issues on a regional basis. I believe we must sit down at a larger table with enough seats to accommodate all of the stakeholders in Sandpoint’s present and future. We need to be talking about boring subjects like a regional wastewater treatment plant and how to deliver water. I believe that we must facilitate a wide range of health care options for our citizens. We must participate in solutions to health insurance for our uninsured and under insured population. We need regional participation in creating the numerous components that will lead to affordable housing for our service industry. We need to elevate, enhance, and embrace our reputation as an Arts community. We must find ways to take advantage of land where we already provide infrastructure and public services. We need to act in a responsible manner to address traffic and parking solutions. After reviewing the Sandpoint Comprehensive Plan draft I am convinced we must have more participation from all areas of Sandpoint in moving forward with a vision that can be shared by a majority of our citizens. I am certain that we must have a community conversation about creating districts in Sandpoint that will require someone to step up from six different geographic locations to represent their neighbors. There is alot on the table and the challenges remain and it will take energy and enthusiasm along with alot of coffee and conversation to move forward.
In my 24 months on the City Council I will prove that with hard work and effort each of us has the potential to contribute to short and long term solutions. I will set the example that it is entirely realistic for you to consider serving a term on behalf of your community. My name is Dan Young and I am asking for your vote on November 6th.
