Cinnamon Challenge Diabetic
I am a Type II diabetic living in Sandpoint, Idaho. In the Sunday edition of the Bonner Daily Bee, there was a Q and A medical column. This 81 year old guy who has had pneumonia, uses an inhaler, and bouts of asthma was trying to control his diabetes with diet and exercise. Yet, before each meal he would have spikes of 25o or more when he poked himself. He read that cinnamon was good for
lowering sugar levels, so he mixed it with Splenda and ate it on toast several times a day. It seemed to work so he got his hands on 500 mg cinnamon capsules and took them twice a day, once after breakfast and once after dinner. After the cinnamon he has not had a “before meal” reading over 130!
I called over to Winter Ridge 208-265-8135 Natural Foods Market behind Dub’s Drive In at 703 Lake Street in Sandpoint; and one of the guys checked out their supply while I waited on the phone. $14.25 later I have 60 vegetarian capsules of Cinnamon Extract. Take 2 per day with food. I got my calculator and did the math and it means my 60 tablets will last for 30 days. 50 cents per day to stop spiking and start livin’ sounds like a sweet deal to me.
I took the first one a few minutes ago and I will report the difference, if any, as I go along with my “before meal”counts. There are lots of encouraging articles on the net about how well this has worked from some diabetics so I will eagerly await the results. That Splenda and cinnamon on toast idea is making me hungry right now. Here is a link to a WebMD article:
